TerraFuture ended 2025 with an operating surplus of $270,000, which has been allocated to our reserve fund and to seed funding for the Riverside microgrid project. Our program spending ratio of 70% reflects our commitment to directing resources where they create the most direct community impact.
Program Highlights
Clean Energy
The Clean Energy Program expanded into two new neighborhoods and launched TerraFuture's first renewable microgrid pilot on the Eastside, connecting 120 homes to a community-owned solar and battery system. The microgrid proved its value during the August heat emergency, maintaining power for 72 hours when the surrounding grid experienced rolling blackouts.
Community Gardens
Seven new garden sites opened in 2025, bringing the total to 35. The garden network produced over 12,000 pounds of fresh produce, donated 3,200 pounds to local food pantries, and diverted 18 tons of organic waste through community composting programs. Our biodiversity monitoring showed a 34% increase in pollinator species at garden sites.
Youth Education
The Climate Academy graduated three cohorts totaling 120 students, and 12 Summer Fellows completed paid fellowships working alongside TerraFuture staff. School partnerships expanded to 22 schools, and 34 TerraFuture alumni are now enrolled in sustainability-related degree programs.
Policy Advocacy
Our data-backed advocacy contributed to the adoption of net-zero-ready building standards for new municipal construction and strengthened green overlay zoning protections covering 180 acres. The Regional Climate Action Coalition grew to 23 member organizations across four municipalities.

Looking Ahead: 2026 Priorities
As we enter our seventh year, TerraFuture is focused on three strategic priorities:
-
Scale the microgrid model. Launch the Riverside microgrid serving 200 homes and develop a replicable implementation guide for other communities.
-
Deepen youth-to-career pathways. Expand the Summer Fellows program to 16 positions, formalize partnerships with two additional universities, and launch a post-secondary mentoring network for TerraFuture alumni.
-
Advance regional policy coordination. Strengthen the Regional Climate Action Coalition's capacity to advocate for coordinated climate resilience planning across all four partner municipalities.
We enter 2026 with a strong financial position, a growing team, and the trust of the communities we serve. The work ahead is urgent, but we face it with evidence, partnerships, and optimism.
